On June 6th, 2024, STAR.VISION collaborated with the Second Institute of Oceanography under China's Ministry of Natural Resources to host an international event focusing on marine resource sustainability and cooperation, aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and fostering global marine ecological protection.
The event convened 15 developing nations from the Pacific Islands, Indian Ocean, and Africa to engage in the "Monitoring Capabilities of Typical Elements of Marine and Coastal Ecological Environment in Indo-Pacific Island Countries" project. This initiative aims to enhance marine monitoring capabilities using generative AI, contributing to global marine ecology's sustainable development.
Participants began their visit in Yunqi Town, known for cloud computing and space industries, gaining insights into China's tech innovation. They then visited STAR.VISION to explore space culture and technology, discussing AI satellite R&D and its application in marine ecological protection.
Dr. Kang Yashu, STAR.VISION's Chief AI Scientist, presented on ocean monitoring using multi-source earth observation data, sharing AI's marine environmental monitoring experiences and discussing the integration of generative AI into marine protection work.
The collaboration emphasized leveraging space-based computing to strengthen Indo-Pacific Island nations' marine monitoring, promoting regional marine ecological protection.
