Dr. Tidiane Ouattara highly praised the initiative, recognizing its potential to bring new opportunities for the development of Africa’s space technology sector.
The African satellite constellation initiative aims to provide applications and technological support in key areas such as agricultural development, disaster prevention, and satellite communications. By leveraging satellite technology, the initiative seeks to generate a profound and lasting positive impact on livelihoods across the continent.
As a major agricultural region, Africa relies heavily on farming as a pillar of its economy, directly affecting the well-being of its population. Satellite monitoring enables real-time analysis of soil fertility and crop growth, providing precise data for irrigation and fertilization. This, in turn, helps improve food production, alleviate hunger, and strengthen food security in the region.
In the field of disaster prevention and mitigation, satellites can detect early signs of natural disasters such as floods and droughts, issuing timely warnings that allow residents to evacuate and minimize casualties and property damage. Additionally, satellite data supports emergency response efforts, enhancing the overall capacity to address natural disasters effectively.
Previously, STAR.VISION had already reached a consensus with several African nations, including Gabon and Ghana, on the development of the African satellite constellation and signed cooperation agreements.
